Welcome to the Group of Prof. Susanne Koch

The Koch lab is interested in understanding the mechanisms of retinal degenerative diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP), which lead to loss of the light-sensitive photoreceptor cells and, thus, vision impairment or blindness. Unfortunately, there is currently no therapy that can improve photoreceptor survival  and preserve vision. This unmet medical need is partly due to our relatively poor understanding of the molecular nodes and pathways affecting photoreceptor survival.
